Snocross Sponsors

Surprisingly, sponsors are a large part of Snocross racing. If you don’t know what snocross is click here > http://tannerb17.wordpress.com/2011/11/18/what-is-snocross/ < The racers get about 50% of their money from their sponsors. What are sponsors you ask? Sponsors are companies organizations that give a racer (in this case) money to have their logo on their sleds or gear. For example, Tucker Hibbert has the sponsor of Monster Energy Drink which is a big company that is very popular. So a large majority of his sled is covered in Monster Energy logos.

Sponsors also give you gear and parts fo your sled. They want you to be the best possible racer so you win and you sled sponsors and you are in the spotlight.

This is my second to last or last (not sure) blog post and I would like to thank everyone for all the views I’ve got so far but the school year is coming to a close and I don’t think I’m going to keep my blog. Thank you for all the comments and views.

Ski-Doo’s 2013 Sleds

A few days ago I got an E-Mail from the American Snowmobiler Magazine website (I’m on their newsletter) say that they where talking about the new 2013 Ski-Doo models.

I have about 30 of their magazines and and I have most likely read every single word in each magazine. The one part I don’t like about all motor companies is that they release their products a year before that year even is close starting. EX. “Now introducing the new 2013 Ski-Doo Summit Freeride”.

That is the 2013 Ski-Doo Summit Freeride. The best Mountain sled there is. It is much different then last years model from 2012. The color has been changed from white or a choice of three wraps to this dark Army green. The Skis have been changed to their newest powder ski with ripples called the DS Pilot Ski (Deep Snow Pilot Ski). It helps you carve through the snow and turn in powder more. It still has Ski-Doo’s signature Rotax (not important to you) 800r engine. The R stands for Rotax which it the motor company made BRP (Bombardier Recreational Products) Which produces Ski-Doo, and a partner company called Lynx. The sleds are pretty much the same.

All of the models have something new to offer including heated seats, heated handlebars, new shocks, and much much more! The biggest change between the model 2012 and 2013 is the Ski-Doo MXZ XRS.

This is last years model.

The New model. You can see the difference. This model is updated with the latest technology.

As you may know Ski-Doo is my favorite  snowmobile company. The 2013 sleds style are not changed much, but mostly the colors and add-ons and aftermarket parts are put on these new sleds. The average price for a new Ski-Doo is about 12,000 dollars, but I imagine its worth it. My next post is going to about snocross sponsors, so stay tuned. Here is a video of the 2013 Ski-Doo line-up.

A New Record!!

As you may know, at  Winter X-Games 2012 Heath Frisby did the first ever front flip on a snowmobile in competition. It was amazing! It was a hard landing, but he made it. He had to train for the jump for almost a whole year. I know what you’re thinking, how does he do that without any snow? He has a foam pit. A foam pit is a big pit filled with big foam blocks that you do jumps and tricks into. After you land in the pit a crane pulls you out. This is what a foam pit looks like.

Heath Frisby is a  considered one of the best snowmobile freestyle riders in history, he has 10 snowmobile event starts since 2007, earning medals in six of them (including X-Games Best Trick gold in 2010). He competes in both Freestyle and Best Trick at the Winter X-Games and has been one of the most progressive, influential riders in the freestyle snowmobile movement. He was the first to land  tricks on a sled, including body spins, Tsunami backflips, and recently a front flip.

“I was playing it extremely safe last night,” Frisby told  his fans on Facebook on Friday after finishing in fourth place in the Snowmobile Freestyle finals Thursday. “Sunday night is my night to shine and be the first person in the world to do a front flip on a snowmobile.”

Here are a few pictures of the jump and Heath Frisby.

Heath’s crew had to put a rolled up track at the lip of the jump so the sled would rotate better.

Ski-Doo

Ski-Doo is my favorite snowmobile company. Honestly I think they are the best, not by far, followed by Arctic Cat. Ski-Doo is likely to be the most respected snowmobile company there is. This is probably so because the owner of Ski-Doo (Joseph Armand Bombardier) invented Ski-Doo which was the first snowmobile. The first snowmobile was originally called the Ski-Dog because it could get though the snow very easily like an energetic dog. There are many Ski-Doo models including the Tundra, Summit, Summit Freeride, MXZ, MXZ-XRS, Tundra, Renegade, and many more.

You can also get a wrap kit for your snowmobile which is awesome! On the Ski-doo website you can customize your own sled with an electric start, wrap kit for free, certain tracks, colors, length of tracks, and a lot more. Check out the build your own sled link here!

X-Games Snowmobiling events

X-Games has hosted snocross and some other snowmobiling sports for a few years now and these events are starting to get more and more popular. There are 5 events that contribute the Winter X-Games. There is of couse Snocross, Hillcross (which was canceled a few years ago)  Freestyle, Best trick, and Speed and Style. I’m not sure why Hillcross was canceled but it stinks.

Hillcross is like a hill climb except all the racers go up the hill at the same time and there are laps, also the hill is not as steep.

Speed and Style is an event were the 2 racers at a time go around 2 different tracks that are about the same length for two laps. One track is loaded with jumps in which the racer has to hit and do a cool trick to get points from the judges. On the other track the racer goes around pretty much a mini snocross track. After one lap the racers switch tracks and do the best they can on the opposite track. At the end the winner is decided by the combined points from the “Speed” and “Style” tracks.

Best Trick is about the same as Freestyle but in Freestyle you get about 3 minuets to pull of a bunch of tricks were in Best Trick you get 1 trick and that is it, Uno tricko. The winner is decided on what number out of 100 you get.

I love the winter X-Games and I can’t wait to see it on January 29, 2012 on ESPN or the NBC Sports Network or NBCSN.

Speed and Style

And just so you know the reason I love this sport is because it is amazing how these guys risk their lives doing amazing tricks on 450-550 pound sleds to entertain fans. If you think that this sport is boring I respect that but when you think about it its just amazing how these guys do it, and if you think its not hard to do this you are sooo wrong, most of the time the riders  hit a jump at 80-90 mph. Training is incredibly hard  and wears out your body. When they crash they can die, get paralyzed, or be in the Hospital for possibly 4 years. That’s why I love Snocross!

ADRENALINE!!!
